What is up with that picture? I assume the green rectangles are supposed to be the evaporation ponds, but they clearly appear (to me) to be something floating in the foreground, above the cloud cover and the haze in the background. Has the image been processed to make the ponds “pop”?
I agree, it looks like the evaporation ponds are floating above the background. Sort of psychedelic or something. The roads in the upper left portion give an idea of the scale.

that it isn’t cloud cover and haze, it’s rocks, sand, and “alluvial deposits” in the desert.
